Dear Bahrain TV,
Since the F1 broadcasting was replaced by you instead of aljazeera sport tv, i couldn't watch any race on your channel till now.
Meanwile, if you will not broadcast on nile sat, aljazeera sport tv should again be the eclusive broadcasting channel for these races.
Your prompt action is highly appreciated.

Subject: Auto Duopoly - Mercedes and BMW in Egypt (Go to article)

I am not surprised. Under a heavily protected market it is not strange to see such scams! Somehow the market of luxury cars is dominated by only two companies BMW and Mercedes. A duopoly, a market structure in which John Nash's game theory applies; which basically the two companies reach a settelment so that they do not compete with each other and eventually the consumer would win. They start with new cars almost empty of standard European features so that the other company could catch up! Let's take the new Mercedes GLK for instance Vs the currently loaded but ugly X3. The new GLK has a small engine, no sunroof, no optional trims, and no GPS system while the X3 that has been dominating the market for years is almost fully equipped not counting trip computer and navigation. Now, if mercedes would have entered the market with a fully loaded SUV it would have been bad business for the two companies, but if it were to give a grace period of a year until BMW launches the second generation of X3 it would be better for they will not have to compete. with the introduction of a new car it will be deprived of advanced features. yet people will still buy it for the love of being "first to buy a new model" and by that time benz would add new toys for GLK to be the "all new all improved car" which definitly attracts a consumer segment of its own. so both companies end up being better off with good sales on the two fronts. Finally, when it comes to consumer in auto market, rationality tends to dissappear due to misinformation and the irrational car customs policy, which in turn, makes people irrational.

Editors response:
Very good point, Ahmed.
I couldn't agree more with you.

Subject: The need for a service manager at Bavarian Auto / BMW Egypt (Go to article)

Mr. Amr Elfeky pointed that the Abou Rawash BMW service manager supported him many times. In my opinion, this indicates that there is something severely wrong with the maintenance center. Or why he would need the support from such a high managerial level. I would like if MR. Amr could kindly give details on that. This is very much appreciated if he could.

Editors response:
I totally agree with you.

Subject: I think Auto Arabia has personal problem with bavarian auto group / BMW Egypt (Go to article)

Dear Amr,
I just read the article about bavarian auto and i have also BMW 523i car and i recieved my car from
qattamia branch but i always go to Abourawash branch and i never had problem with them. They always deal with me in very professional way i love to wait my car to be finished since the place there is really amazing and very quiet.
The service manager also supported me many times in invoice so i think Auto Arabia has personal issues with BMW in egypt. I noticed they published the court verdict against their boss i remember his name Eltobgui many times and when bavarian win at the end and the verdict was cancelled they never mention to it. it was published in elmasry elyoum newspaper at
http://www.almasry-alyoum.com/article2.aspx?ArticleID=212902&IssueID=1420
anyway i love BMW cars and i have good experience with their aftersales services they are the best from my point of view.
regards
Dr. Amr Elfeky

Editors response:
Dear Dr. Amr,
I am glad that also you have good experience with Bavarian Auto Group, the BMW importer in Egypt.
As far as we at Auto Arabia are concerned, please rest assured that we always make our judgments based on unbiased facts and facts only. Unlike other motoring and non-motoring media in Egypt we do not start 'positive' image campaigns when we receive advertisements campaigns from any car manufacturer in Egypt or the Middle East.

We also do NOT publish advertorials paid by car manufacturer as 'editorials' when they would like to defend themselves, like it was the case with the first court verdict of Bavarian Auto Group. I am sure you have read in the Al-Ahram and Akhbar El Yom newspaper those advertorials of Bavarian Auto Group when the first court verdict was announced a several weeks ago.

As far as the Bavarian Auto Group / BMW Group is concerned, I have to tell you that in the recent years we have only had negative experience with the Bavarian Auto Group, which apparently has a lot of incompetent and unprofessional departments inside the group. You were criticizing that we did not publish 'the verdict cancellation' against the Bavarian Auto Group, of which you kindly sent us the above-mentioned URL link. The reason why we did not publish this verdict is because one of these very
incompetent and unprofessional departments, which I mentioned earlier, is the Marketing and PR department at Bavarian Auto Group / BMW Egypt which did NOT send us (and probably also the other motoring and non-motoring media) any press release about this matter.

You also mentioned that the Service Manager 'supported' you many times with the invoice. We feel happy for you that you receive such 'support' but on the other hand we think that such 'support' is a very sensitive matter, which inevitably leads to corruption in the service centers. On the other hands we heard from many BMW-owner how they have been ripped-off in the Bavarian Auto Group service center.

The fact that Bavarian Auto Group fired a few weeks ago its German operation manager and replaced him with an Egyptian manager, will also surely make the Bavarian Auto Group drift even more away from German standards.

We will publish a few facts in another articles about the Bavarian Auto Group on the 15th of June 2009, which will show you and other readers that our 'professional' opinion is solely based on facts and has nothing to do with any 'personal problems'.

At the end I would like to thank you for sending us the URL link for the latest court verdict, as this shows us again that our readers are in many cases faster then many Marketing & PR department of the car companies in Egypt, in this case Bavarian Auto Group.

I am a BMW owner since 1995. Bavaria Auto Group service is one of the best in the country. Their customer care procedure is excellent and their interest in providing best value for money is strong. There are many ways of showing respect to a dead person. One way is to show it on newspaper, another is to communicate on a personal level to the family of the deceased. For my preference, in these matters, I think the personal note is more genuine and sincere.

Subject: Alonso drives Nissan GT-R during Bahrain F1 weekend with flip-flops??? (Go to article)

Exactly 2 years ago in Bahrain, and during the UN road safety week, held under the slogan 'Think! Before you drive!', Fernando Alonso said: "For me it is very important to support this campaign, and make safety
in our cars the first priority in everyday life.I think we need to improve safety and we need to improve roads, make the roads safe and I think we can do this if everyone works in the same direction."

And the best promotion for this is by driving a powerful Nissan GT-R with flip-flops?

As a matter of fact, it is very well known that driving in loose-fitting summer footwear is dangerous because the sole can easily get caught under the brake, clutch or accelerator pedal. And the lack of a heel
on a flip-flop can lead to it coming off during gear changes.

I can imagine that with all the electronic and safety gadgets available in the GT-R it is very easy to drive it, but still I think that it is completely irresponsible to emphasis this easiness by the flip-flop driving pose of the Renault F1 Team driver.

This reminds me with another Renault F1 incident a few days ago in Dubai. On the occasion of Renault's 'roadshow' event in Dubai, the UAE's Automobile Club President and FIA Vice President for Sport Mohammed bin Sulayem, who also happens to be 14-time Middle East Rally champion, shunted last year's R28 F1 car on a straight line !!! Seems like Mohamed bin Sulayem was also wearing flip-flops ;-)

Subject: F1 broadcast on Bahrain TV (Go to article)

If the people responsible for signing F1 TV broadcasting rights think that they did the Arab F1 fans a big favor,
by letting Bahrain TV transmit the Formula One 2009 season in Middle East & North Africa, then they obviously made a big mistake and just made things worse.
The F1 TV broadcast on Aljazeera Sports TV was bad enough, but the F1 broadcast on Bahrain TV is even worse. And I though it couldn't get worse!!! But i was
strongly mistaken!!!
Beside the fact that a lot of viewers have more information than the guests present in the studio, there are also horrible pronunciation
and technical mistakes. I know that it will take time to have F1 broadcasting quality and commenting bench mark levels,
like the great John Watson when he was working for Eurosport. But these people have to be wisely selected and tested before they go on air.
As a matter of fact, the "coolest" thing was the simultaneous bilingual chat commentary on Bahrain Sport TV during the free sessions on 24th and 25th of April 2009
at the Bahrain F1 race. One guy is talking in English and the other one is talking in Arabic...and both are not related to each other....!
To err is human...but these things must be immediately corrected and transformed to a more professional level, by showing more high quality content.
People have to enjoy watching F1 in Arabic on TV. Otherwise you will start to ask yourself why should I torture myself and watch my favorite sport in miserable
quality and amateur-like commenting? I think the FIA should check on the Arabic F1 broadcast more closely, in order to win more F1 fans in the region and in
order not to lose the existing F1 fans.

I didn’t face a problem to find the channels on nilesat. Both the Arabic and the English one. But the problem is that the quality of the broadcast is very bad and really you don’t enjoy watching the race. I can't believe that a country like Bahrain offers such a bad broadcasting. Last years on Aljazeera I was really enjoying it. I had to search on internet a lot to know that Bahrain TV are the exclusive broadcaster, they didn't even advertise for this in the known TV channels, magazines, newspapers or even online through facebook, mass mailing or e-advertising. Please send my comments to them, and hope they give us quality picture. They have the money and I am sure they can do it.

Subject: Hyundai illusions? (Readers letter)

I noticed lately a dramatic change to Hyundai Egypt website quality and contents. The site has been poor in content and modifications for a long time and was hardly any good for customers planning to buy a Hyundai and searching for information. Actually the site didn’t present information on some of the cars presented in our local market. Now, the site is updated and not only include all Hyundai range but even some new models that made me decide writing this letter in search for a hint or a tip of what is happening there.
I noticed that two new cars are introduced on the passenger cars section: Azera and Genesis plus a banner in the bottom of this Hyundai Egypt’s home page displaying the Genesis Coupe. Does this mean we should find these new models in the nearest showroom? IF yes; then why we have never heard of this new fleet to our land? If no; then I wish they didn’t update their website from a poorly managed site to a total confusion.

Editors response:
Dear Amro,
neither the Azera nor the Genesis Coupe are offered officially in Egypt. They probably just put those cars on their website in order to make it look good. Hyundai in Egypt is mainly concentrating on the Elantra, the Accent and the locally-asseembled Verna as those are the cars they make money with

I followed the Chinese GP 2009 on Bahrain sports channel on Nilesat. The picture was good but I was quite disappointed to find the commentary only in Arabic. I hope the Bahraini officials can do something about this and broadcast the race with English commentary for non-Arabs, just like Aljazeera used to do.
If the editor has an idea about how to tune in on an English commentary on any Nilesat channel, the help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Editors response:
Dear Elssa,
according to the official Bahraini TV and BIC sources there is also an English commentary. Please check the frequencies we published below.

Subject: F1 Television Coverage in Middle East and North Africa through Bahrain TV (Go to article)

Dear All,
today (16.04.2009) and after a lot of confusion in this matter we received the following statement from the broadcasters of the F1 championship on Bahrain TV:

Bahrain Television Channel 44 will broadcast the Arabic commentary during the qualifying sessions and the race.

Bahrain Sports 1 will air the practice sessions in Arabic, qualifying sessions and race with the English BBC commentary from leading experts Martin Brundle, Jonathan Ledgard, Eddie Jordan, David Coulthard, Lee McKenzie, Ted Kravitz and Jake Humphrey. All the support races will also be broadcast on this channel which can be found on Arabsat badr 4, frequency 12226, polarity horizontal fec ¾, symbol rate 27500.

This weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix will be broadcast at the following times (Bahrain Time) across the Middle East, GCC and North Africa:

Friday 17 April 2009: Practice 1 05:00 to 06:30
Practice 2 09:00 to 10.30

Saturday 18 April 2009: Practice 3 06:00 to 07:00
Qualifying 09:00

Sunday 19 April 2009: Race 10:00

I hope this didn't make it more confusing and makes it a little bit easier for the many F1 fans in the Middle East to watch F1 in Arabic and in English.
