NEW McLAREN 12C SPIDER: ON THE LIMIT AND ON CAMERA IN NEW SHORT FILM BY McLAREN AUTOMOTIVE

The stunning new 12C Spider may now be seen in action for the first time, with the launch of a high quality short film:

Shot using cinema-quality RED camera technology, the film begins with a 12C Spider finished in glorious Volcano Red in high speed action on track, before it traverses the winding mountain roads of Andaluc?a in Southern Spain. The exciting sequence underlines the 12C Spider’s position as a luxury convertible sports car offering a spectacular combination of performance and usability.

Early in the film, the 12C Spider’s Retractable Hard Top is lowered with the car in motion - a unique feature among the new 12C derivative’s competitor set. The RHT system operates in less than 17 seconds. McLaren Automotive Test Driver and British Touring Car Championship star Mat Jackson then shows viewers why McLaren believes it has developed a sports car that adds open-top thrills’ to a groundbreaking package of technology inspired by its successful Formula 1 race cars.

Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive Managing Director said: “We know 12C drivers love the Formula 1 technology DNA that runs throughout their cars. With the 12C Spider, owners will have an even greater opportunity to create their perfect driving experience. Top up or top down, the sports car with highest performance among the competition just became even more breathtaking. The exhilarating aspects of driving the 12C Spider are captured beautifully in this great new film.

Prospective customers and sports car enthusiasts may now specify their desired 12C spider at McLaren Automotive’s interactive online configurator, which is located at: www.configure.mclaren.com. There, the 12C Spider may be personalised with myriad exterior and interior finishes, a range of wheel designs and attractive carbon fibre appliqu?©.

Orders for the new 12C Spider are now being taken by 38 McLaren retailers in 22 countries worldwide.

McLaren Automotive has a 20 year heritage in producing landmark sports cars for the road: the McLaren F1 road car, which was launched in 1992, set the world land speed record for a production car, and is regarded as one of the iconic sports cars of the modern age. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (2003 – 2009) is the most successful supercar ever in its price bracket, having sold twice as many cars as its nearest carbon-based rival.

McLaren Automotive has now moved from these successful automotive projects to launching a new car company that will design, develop, and distribute a range of high performance, highly efficient and technologically innovative sports cars through a global network of highly respected premium car retailers in every major automotive market.

McLaren Automotive’s debut model is the MP4-12C. Drawing on the company’s long-standing Formula 1 experience in its concept and development, the 12C is lighter, faster, more powerful, more fuel efficient and more exclusive than its key competition. It supports its performance benchmarks by introducing a unique one-piece moulded carbon chassis into the â€?core’ sports car segment in a new production method that brings the performance of ?£500,000 cars to market at a third of the price. All future McLarens will continue the themes presented by the MP4-12C: innovation, integration of Formula 1 technology, and ultimate performance.

In 2011 McLaren Automotive announced the launch of McLaren GT; a new race car manufacturer combining the expertise of McLaren Automotive, McLaren Racing, McLaren Electronic Systems, McLaren Applied Technologies and CRS Racing. McLaren GT is now developing the first racing derivative of the 12C sports car, the MP4-12C GT3. Twenty-five examples of the MP4-12C GT3 will be delivered to private teams for racing in Europe in 2012.
