BMW recalls 150.000 vehicles because of possible fuel leakage
The affected cars could leak fuel and in worst case scenario lead to a crash.
Twenty-six different BMW models built between 2007 and 2012 are affected by this recall. In this case a loose wiring in the fuel pump could melt a connector which consequently would lead to fuel leaking. This could then cause the vehicle to stall and eventually lead to a crash.
The affected models are:
2007-2011:
BMW X5 3.0si
X5 4.8i, X5 M
X5 xDrive30i
X5 xDrive35i
X5 xDrive48i
X5 xDrive50i
2008-2011:
X6 x Drive35i
X6 xDrive50i
X6 M
2010-2011:
X6 ActiveHybrid
535i xDrive Gran Turismo
535i Gran Turismo
550i xDrive Gran Turismo
550i Gran Turismo
2011-2012:
528i
535i
535i xDrive
550i
550i xDrive
2012:
ActiveHybrid
640i Convertible
650i Convertible
650i xDrive Convertible
650i Coupe
650i Coupe xDrive
Owners of the affected cars should contact their local BMW dealer in order to get free replacement for the faulty part, as the recall is scheduled to start in the first week of December.
2016 is not a good year for BMW as they have had several serious recalls already. Last February BMW recalled more than 845.000 cars because of airbag failure problems as part of the worldwide Takata airbag recall, which included millions of cars. In addition to that BMW had recalled almost 200.000 units of the X3 and X4 SAV models because of safety problems with the child seat anchors.
This was not the first BMW recall this year. In June, the car manufacturer recalled nearly 200,000 X3 and X4 crossover SUVs for problems with the child seat anchors.
More updates about the BMW recalls will follow shortly.
