Jamiroquai to rock Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix on Yas Island
Following the announcement of their landmark events programme Yasalam on Monday, Flash Entertainment, the Abu Dhabi-based events company, today confirmed the name of the act performing on Friday 30th October as part of the Yasalam After-Race concerts on Yas Island. Electro-pop-funk legend Jamiroquai will be joining Beyonce and Aerosmith for a weekend of concerts never before seen in the UAE.
The Yasalam After-Race concerts are exclusively for Grand Prix ticket holders and will be taking place at the Concert Arena, Ferrari World, Yas Island throughout the weekend. People who have purchased a 3-day F1 Race ticket will be able to access all four nights of after-race concerts, and if they have purchased a 2-day ticket they will be able to access the concerts on Saturday and Sunday only. Flash confirmed that no additional tickets will be sold for any of the four nights of shows.
John Lickrish, Managing Director of Flash Entertainment, commented on the shows:
“We are thrilled to be able to announce another fantastic act for the Yasalam After-Race concerts. Jamiroquai has a huge following all over the world, and lead singer Jay Kay’s penchant for motorsport makes it the perfect performance for the evening after the race. We have an amazing line-up of artists to complement the spectacular race at Yas Marina Circuit, and you can already feel the excitement building.
Mr Lickrish went on to re-iterate the fact that the After-Race Concerts were for F1 ticket holders only;
“While the Yasalam After-Race concerts are exclusive to Grand Prix ticket holders only, there is a full programme of fantastic free concerts, movie nights, and motor-sport themed events taking place all over the city. I’d encourage people to join the party at www.yasalam.ae
The Yasalam After-Race concerts on Yas Island are part of a wider programme of events which have been announced under the Yasalam (Arabic for amazing) banner. Yasalam will see a series of events and activities in Abu Dhabi throughout October to celebrate the country’s biggest sporting event – the 2009 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand prix. These Yasalam events will include educational events for students, live art with F1 replica cars, free concerts and film screenings on the Corniche in addition to the first official F1™ Fan Zone Abu Dhabi, brought to the city by Mubabdala. Full details of the Yasalam programme can be found at www.yasalam.ae
Jamiroquai is a British pop band which started as part of the London-based acid jazz movement in the 1990s. Subsequent albums have explored other musical directions such as pop, rock and electronica. Jamiroquai has sold more than 21 million albums worldwide. The lineup of the band has changed several times but the core members are lead singer and songwriter Jason "Jay" Kay and drummer Derrick McKenzie. The band's international breakthrough came with the third album, Travelling Without Moving in 1996 which yielded two worldwide hits, "Virtual Insanity" and "Cosmic Girl". Jamiroquai is no stranger to the F1 circuit having performed at the closing concert of Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang International Circuit Malaysia in April this year.
The final line up for the Yasalam After-Race concerts on Yas Island will be announced Sunday 4 October 2009.
